This illustration was created for CAPE Ettelbrück’s Family Opera project and draws inspiration from Maurice Ravel’s 'L’enfant et les sortilèges'. Designed to resonate with both children and adults, the image embraces emotional complexity and uses composition, colour and expression as tools to invite conversation. At the centre of the scene stands the angry child, whose emotional outburst sets the opera’s surreal world in motion, surrounded by the animals and objects it has mistreated or rejected. Rather than idealising childhood, the illustration foregrounds conflict and discomfort in an honest and accessible way, encouraging young viewers to recognise themselves in the character and to become curious about the transformation that follows.
